We had a late start again, really late 10 am. Al had set rocks on the stakes so the tent stayed put but it did flood.

All of our clothes were soaked during the night. In the morning we had them hanging everywhere. And my phone had died. All the maps are on my phone! 😳 We use the FarOut app, which has maps with active GPS. So even if there is no service we can still see where we are on the map.
Once we dried mostly out we had to head back up that horrible mud hill we came down the night before. Supposedly only 7/10 s of a mile but going up hill it seems like a lot longer. So we decided on a short day because we actually hiked more yesterday than we had planned on.
Once back on the PCT we started to ascend again.

There’s lots of snow on the ground up here. We are at about 5400 feet. The trail is rocky and narrow. Parts are like a river, with flowing water then you get these puddles where you have no where to go but right on thru.

We took a break here and tried charging my phone.

Most of the time you have to watch where you are going, because the ground is so rocky. I try to stop and look around every couple of minutes, plus it gives me a chance to catch my breath.
The trail turns to slushy deep snow, my feet are perpetually soaked.

After about 5 miles we call it quits and look for a camp site. we have to clear snow to set up the tent. There is a stream nearby where we can get water. Even after filtering the water is still kinda yellow looking. We boil some for tea before bed.

Tomorrow, we find out our shoes froze solid during the night!!
Until then, be well.
Cold and wet conditions are very difficult! Warmer weather is on the horizon hopefully!
